Mr. Schwartz received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from The George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1988. Immediately thereafter he attended The American University, Washington College of Law. In the fall of 1989, he obtained a full time position as a Patent Agent at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Fleit, Jacobson, Cohn, Price, Holman & Stern while attending law school at night. This position entailed performing all phases of Patent Prosecution before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as instructing Foreign Associates on responding to foreign actions.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Schwartz moved to New York where he worked at the Intellectual Property Law Firm of Helfgott & Karas, P.C. as an associate attorney. This position entailed performing all phases of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law including drafting of Applications, responding to Office Actions and preparing validity and infringement opinions.
In February of 1995, Mr. Schwartz obtained a position with the firm of Cohen, Pontani, Lieberman & Pavane as an associate attorney. This position provided Mr. Schwartz with additional experience in performing all phases of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law including drafting of Applications, responding to Office Actions and preparing validity and infringement opinions.
In November, 1995 Mr. Schwartz established the Law Office of Jack J. Schwartz specializing in all phases of US and Foreign Intellectual Property Law. In the almost twenty-years years since this firm was founded, the firm has changed its name to Jack Schwartz & Associates, PLLC as it had grown to include three associate attorneys and two patent agents at its height. This firm also provides support and advice on intellectual property matters to other attorneys.
In February 2016 Mr. Schwartz moved his firm to Commack, New York and has been practicing as a solo practitioner since this move from New York City. Mr. Schwartz is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Patent, Trademark and Copyright section).
