Practice Areas: Patent

We understand the competitive edge that patents provide in today’s technology-driven business culture throughout the world. We  provide our clients with guidance to enable them to compete.  We use our scholarship, training, and many years of experience to dramatically improve our clients’ offensive and defensive game.

For the offense, we assist our clients to identify commercially important inventions. We perform state of the art and pre-examination (i.e., patent novelty) searches that give clients guidance on the significance of these search results.  Where inventions are identified that our clients believe are commercially important, we prepare and prosecute patent applications in the US and throughout the world. We provide important business and legal guidance and practical advice on securing rights in both the US and around the world. We work tirelessly to enforce our clients’ rights throughout the world, from vigorous assertion of patent rights, from licensing to litigation.  We formulate and implement licensing programs.  These services include licensing negotiations, enforcement of licensing contracts, and litigation to enforce contracts.

For our clients’ defensive game, we put our clients’ business concerns first by providing the legal and technical guidance to steer clear of unwanted claims of patent infringement.  This includes patent infringement and validity searches so that our clients can design around patent claims. We perform the necessary legal  research and analysis to show that our clients’ activities are appropriate  and that, where possible,  claims of infringement are without merit.  We determine the scope and liability of our clients under existing or proposed licenses.

We work with clients in many fields, including:

  • computer
  • electronic
  • electro-mechanical
  • mechanical
  • chemical technologies
  • business systems
  • software
  • business methods

Our diverse and extensive background and experience, including authorship of a leading book on patent prosecution, places us in a position to prosecute our clients’ patents and to protect our clients’  businesses to the fullest.
