BERTRAND M. LANCHNER has received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard University, School of Law. He is admitted to the Bar of the State of New York (1956). Prior to becoming of-counsel to Furgang & Adwar, he was General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Senior Vice President, N. W. Ayer, Inc. (advertising agency). In the course of his activities he established Ayer’s legal department in 1973. Prior to joining Ayer, Mr. Lanchner was a Member of the Board of Directors, General Counsel, and Executive Vice President of Videorecord Corporation of America. He previously served as Director, Business & Legal Affairs, Sports Contract Negotiations and Acquisitions for the CBS Television Network. He also served as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of the Lawrence C. Gumbinner Advertising Agency, and as Assistant General Counsel of the Dancer/Fitzgerald-Sample, Inc. During his career, Mr. Lanchner has also been in-house counsel to Warner Brothers Pictures and associated with Sage, Gray Todd & Sims.

Mr. Lanchner has served as a member and served twice as Chair of the Legal Committee of the American Association of Advertising Agencies; is a member of the Legal Committee of the American Advertising Federation; and Chair of the Advertising Division of the Corporate Law Legal Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He is the current Chair of the Advertising Committee of the American Corporate Counsel Association.

Mr. Lanchner has spent over 40 years as an attorney in the entertainment industry. His areas of concentration includes: Advertising Law (ranging from truth in advertising to all legal aspects of running an advertising agency and the problems faced by advertisers and their agencies, including practice before the FTC, FDA, NAD, and NARB, and television, radio and cable advertising clearance advocacy at ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and the cable networks); talent negotiation (including all aspects of celebrity endorsements, including leading sports and entertainment figures); Sports Law (rights acquisitions to leading sports events, such as professional football, soccer, baseball, triple crown racing, U.S. Open Tennis, Masters Golf Tournament, and the Olympics (summer and winter); Broadcast, Communications, and Music Law (network aspects, FCC, programming rights acquisitions, music performance rights--ASCAP, BMI, SESAC); Copyright and Trademark Law; Publishing Law (author and publisher representation); Motion Picture and Theatrical Law (script and talent acquisition, all production aspects).

Mr. Lanchner was a pioneer lawyer in the birth of the video cassette industry and lectured at Yale University, School of Law on the subject. He also has served as a panel member in symposiums involving video cassette law and has been quoted in numerous publications. He has given many seminars in advertising law throughout the United States. Over the years, Mr. Lanchner has been interviewed and quoted in the nation's leading newspapers and industry trade Journals on advertising and sports law.
